Today, there are a multitude of technical possibilities for efficiency improvements in the building sector, especially for existing buildings. However, despite support programs and tax incentives that have been available in Switzerland for years, the high potential is far from being exploited. Approaches aimed at increasing the renovation rate already exist, but have had little success so far. Therefore, soft factors such as successful stakeholder management or participation and communication between owners in neighborhoods and with relevant providers are likely to be decisive for success.
As providers of financial and technical solutions, energy service providers and project developers play an important role by being able to develop offers tailored to the needs of owners.
Together with the engineering firm Weinmann Energies, Intep is evaluating existing offers for increasing the renovation rate and, in cooperation with energy service providers and project developers, is developing approaches for mediation and cooperation. These will be tested in four pilot communities and the findings will be compiled in a guide for Swiss communities.
