Visit to Chinese-Swiss zero-carbon building projects

May 25th 2023 | Claudia Bucher

As part of the Swiss-Chinese zero-emissions building project, the Swiss project managers intep / Skat and the Chinese project manager China Academy of Building Research organized a two-week joint mission. The Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University also participated as local technical leader.

The delegation visited six Chinese cities: Shanghai, Wuxi, Shaoxing, Hangzhou, Beijing and Shenzhen. During the visit, the Chinese and Swiss experts exchanged ideas with all eight teams of the Sino-Swiss zero carbon building demonstration projects. Information on technical details was discussed and requirements were covered in order to build a solid foundation for the introduction of Swiss elements and the implementation of the project, as well as to achieve the zero-emission goals. The delegation visited various demonstration projects, met with project managers and discussed specific technologies and processes.

During the Swiss delegation’s visit to China, the third steering committee meeting was held together with the Ministry of Housing and Rural Development. The Chinese and Swiss implementing agencies jointly presented the work progress in the second year of the project and the schedule for the next year. The plan is to continuously assess the construction progress of the demonstration projects, a third series of demo projects, and the hosting of a high-level Sino-Swiss forum on zero-carbon buildings.

The mission strengthened the cooperation between China and Switzerland in the field of emission reduction in the construction industry. The zero carbon building project will develop technical standards for zero carbon buildings and implement demonstration projects in different climate zones. Switzerland is contributing its experience and technologies to support China in the carbon neutral development of the construction industry.
