Greenhouse gas emission factors for the building sector (German only)

In Switzerland, the “KBOB Recommendation, Life Cycle Assessment Data in the Construction Sector” standard is used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from structures and buildings. On behalf of and with the support of an interest group, intep conducted a study that presents the emission factors available for Switzerland for energy sources, based on the KBOB recommendation, in a format that enables balancing in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

For this purpose, it was necessary to separately disclose direct and indirect emissions to allow for allocation to the appropriate scopes in accordance with the GHG Protocol. A breakdown of the emissions from the Swiss electricity and district heating mix into the scopes was already performed in an earlier study. This study does not include fuels. Furthermore, the electricity and district heating mixes considered are based on data from 2014.

As part of the intep study, the methodologies from the previous study on the electricity and district heating mix were replicated, updated to the year 2020, and applied to the most common fuels. The study also includes application examples for two fictitious property owners, focusing on determining which scopes the energy consumption falls under to and when direct and indirect emissions are considered.
