Operational Concept for Cultural Buildings (German only)
In this article published in the Immobilia magazine, Andreas Vonrufs, a former intep consultant, discusses the challenges and opportunities related to operational concepts for cultural buildings, using the example of the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur.
Vonrufs explains how modern elements were integrated into the neoclassical architecture of Villa Planta, optimizing the museum’s use and significantly enhancing the visitor experience. Special attention is given to the expansion of exhibition spaces and the multifunctional use of the new foyer, which also serves as an event space, making museum operations more dynamic and accessible.
A specific role model is presented that clearly defines the operational and contractual interfaces between the various stakeholders involved with the Bündner Kunstmuseum. This model outlines the responsibilities and relationships between the Office of Culture as the user representative, the museum operator, the Graubünden Building Office as the owner representative, and other participants.
Vonrufs emphasizes that a comprehensive analysis of core and support processes within the framework of an operational concept is an essential part of operator responsibility and a prerequisite for successful facility management in cultural properties. Therefore, starting the operational concept early is crucial.
