How can circular construction be implemented across a building’s entire life cycle? For LUBW, we developed a comprehensive guide including legal foundations, checklists, and tender text modules—offering practical orientation for construction stakeholders who aim to consistently embed circular principles into their processes.

The starting point

About 60% of total waste and 40% of CO₂ emissions stem from the construction sector—showing major potential for resource efficiency and climate protection. Circular construction responds to this challenge, and LUBW aims to strengthen its practical application.

The goal was a guide that goes beyond an introduction and supports the implementation of circular principles in everyday project work, combining solid expertise with usable tools.

Our task was to create a structured publication that offers orientation, highlights key levers and challenges, and provides concrete support for planning and tendering circular construction projects.

Our contribution

For LUBW, we developed the guide “Successfully Implementing Circular Construction.” It outlines key principles and the legal framework, identifies central fields of action and potential conflicts, and shows how circular approaches can be anchored across all project phases—from planning to construction to use.

The guide serves as a practical tool with checklists, case studies and guidance on assessment and documentation. A particular focus is the integration into public tenders, supported by prepared legal foundations and concrete text modules.

With its clear structure, technical depth and strong practical orientation, the guide provides a solid basis for implementing circular construction projects and supports broader application through its English translation.
