Sustainability is the core business of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). For this reason, various locations are certified according to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) / ISO 14001:2015. On the one hand, the strong growth of the organization had an impact on the real estate portfolio, on the other hand, the legal and corporate policy requirements for climate and environmental management have increased over the past years and become more and more comprehensive. This is also associated with the recurring auditing and implementation obligations of the legislator. Now it must be ensured that the environmental management processes in the real estate departments of GIZ can keep pace with these developments. In addition to in-depth desk research to assess the EMAS / ISO 14001:2015 documentation and the environmental management manual, intep conducted walk-throughs and interviews at four GIZ properties. The resulting overall picture allowed for a meaningful assessment and the creation of an action plan for further optimization.
