Final report: Housing with a Low Environmental Impact (German only)

On behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), intep examined the environmental impact of the housing sector and identified the key challenges and areas of action necessary to enable environmentally friendly housing.

Housing is one of the most impactful sectors in terms of consumption and production when it comes to the environment. Achieving political goals will require significant efforts in the coming years to reduce the negative environmental impact of housing. The final report, “Low-Environmental-Impact Housing,” presents concrete solutions based on various approaches and examples.

The report provides a detailed analysis of how environmental impact can be significantly reduced through architectural innovations, improved building materials, and efficient energy concepts. With a strong focus on sustainability and practical feasibility, the report offers valuable insights for planners, developers, and policymakers to promote sustainable housing concepts that are both ecologically responsible and economically beneficial.
