Zurich Insurance transformed its historic headquarters into a green “Corporate Center”. A particular challenge at the Quai Zurich Campus was combination the old building with state-of-the-art architecture. Intep successfully led the project to achieve four certifications with sustainability labels.

The starting point

The headquarters of Zurich Insurance Company Ltd (Zurich) on Mythenquai has a history spanning over 120 years. To adapt the aging complex to future needs, Zurich initiated a comprehensive redesign project under the supervision of Implenia AG. It was important to them to preserve the historical charm while also reflecting the forward-looking spirit of the company. Therefore, the new Quai Zurich Campus combined modernization and new construction, with a focus on maximum sustainability.

Zurich aims to provide its employees and clients with a state-of-the-art environment that embeds collaboration and communication in an inspiring setting. The goal was to set new standards in sustainability and user well-being with the headquarters. Intep was commissioned to ensure compliance with renowned sustainability standards, including Minergie-ECO, LEED, WELL and 2000-Watt Site.

Our contribution

As a distinguished “LEED Proven Provider”, we assisted the Quai Zurich Campus in obtaining the Platinum Label “LEED New Construction v3”. Thanks to our expertise as a Minergie specialist partner, we also obtained “Minergie-P-ECO” certification – with the “ECO” label emphasizing building ecology and health.

The concept of the 2000-Watt Site was co-developed by intep, enabling the certification of the headquarters in line with a climate-neutral society. In 2023, the WELL Label (v2) Platinum was added, focusing on the needs and health of people – an important aspect of holistic sustainability.

The Quai Zurich Campus is the first building complex in Switzerland to meet all four sustainability standards. Highlights include the installation of an energy center for the entire site, cooling using lake water, an environmentally friendly mobility concept and the consideration of listed buildings alongside various building uses.
