Swiss Post planned new parcel centers according to the DGNB/SGNI sustainability label, with a focus on promoting biological biodiversity. For a flagship project site, intep developed a biodiversity concept, ensuring its integration into the construction project and long-term success monitoring.

The starting point

Swiss Post aims to be climate-neutral in its operations by 2030 and to this end is focusing on renovation and renewable energies for its properties. In the spirit of holistic sustainability, it also emphasizes the ecological component: a new parcel center is intended to serve as a flagship project meeting particularly high standards, with a focus on promoting biological diversity.

The goal was to achieve certification according to the standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) through the Swiss Sustainable Building Council (SGNI). Already engaged as a sustainability consultant and DGNB auditor for the planning of new parcel centers, intep was commissioned by Post Immobilien Management und Services AG to develop a biodiversity concept for the model site according to DGNB/SGNI criteria.

Our contribution

First, the experienced intep team analyzed the current state of the site and its surroundings in terms of ecology and biodiversity. Based on this analysis, biodiversity goals were defined taking into account general objectives as well as DGNB requirements. The team then developed short and long-term measures to achieve these goals, while reviewing an existing concept idea for the outdoor areas.

Where necessary, improvement suggestions and recommendations for further measures on the building or in the surrounding area were developed and incorporated into the construction planning. These included nesting structures for wild bees and an area-adapted plant list for the greenery. For the long-term promotion and preservation of biodiversity, intep provided recommendations for development and maintenance care, as well as success monitoring.
