Capacity building for various stakeholder groups

Intep is advancing the Zero Emission Building Standard in China, establishing the groundwork for a sustainable building future. Through ten demonstration projects across four climate zones and a robust training and education program, we are paving the way for a lasting increase in the proportion of zero-emission buildings throughout the country.

The starting point

China is the world’s largest emitter of CO, with its building sector being the largest globally and accounting for one-third of the countrys energy consumption. To meet the Chinese governments targets of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, as well as the international carbon-neutral goal by 2050 under the Paris Agreement, significant progress in the building sector is essential. This includes ensuring that zero-emission buildings comprise an estimated 30% of the building stock by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Achieving these ambitious targets requires a substantial shift in current building standards toward zero-emission practices.

Our contribution

Intep is driving the development of the ambitious zero-CO building standard in China. Inspired by inteps successful international work, this standard aims to develop mandatory regulations and binding standards for a more sustainable construction industry in China.

With its extensive expertise, intep is supporting China in developing clear strategies to achieve its climate goals—peaking CO emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060in the building sector. A key component is the creation of a timeline to accelerate the improvement of standards and introduce effective policy incentives.

In addition, intep is providing technical and procedural support for the implementation of demonstration buildings, realized by public and private investors. This approach maximizes impact by efficiently consolidating and multiplying resources.

Through targeted training and capacity-building programs, intep empowers decision-makers and professionals to plan, realize, and operate zero-emission buildings. By introducing higher standards, unlocking new investment opportunities, and strengthening professional expertise, intep is laying the foundation for the sustained growth of zero-emission buildings in China, both during and beyond the project’s duration.
