Study on the Wood Value Chain in East Wuerttemberg (German only)

The Wood Value Chain East Wuerttemberg project aims to bolster the region’s wood value chain. Through two studies, the project will generate recommendations, highlighting the current status and development potential for the forest-wood-paper cluster. As a follow-up study to the “Regional Study on Wood Competence” carried out in 2011 for the districts of Ostalbkreis, Heidenheim and Schwäbisch Hall, this study assesses and analyzes the current state of the wood value chain for East Wuerttemberg.

The wood value chain in East Wuerttemberg is an economically significant cluster both within the region and in statewide comparison. With traditional and innovative players across the entire value chain, a center of expertise for wood has been established. The variety of stakeholders, East Württemberg’s strategic location advantages, and wood as a renewable resource provide the forest-wood-paper cluster with significant potential for future economic success.

However, various external factors also pose challenges to the further development of East Württemberg’s wood value chain, some of which are already noticeable today. Therefore, initial approaches and development potentials for strengthening the cluster were suggested

For the follow-up study, the identified challenges and growth opportunities should be thoroughly examined within a stakeholder process, and different aspects validated to create a concept with specific support measures and a detailed roadmap.
