Zurich Airport Dock A: Proven to Be Sustainable

Client

Itten+Brechbühl AG

Period

2023 – 2033

Result

LEED certification

The new Dock A construction project at Zurich Airport is a forward-looking infrastructure development that sets new standards in sustainability, circular economy, and energy efficiency.

The starting point

As a central passenger infrastructure, the new Dock A will strengthen Zurich Airport in the long term and support its further development as an international transport hub. The project includes modern check-in areas, security controls, passenger zones, as well as food, beverage, and retail spaces, offering passengers a high level of comfort. At the same time, efficient operations are ensured. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainable construction practices and technologies, as well as on minimising resource consumption and embodied greenhouse-gas emissions. Through LEED certification, the high sustainability ambition is documented.

Our contribution

Intep accompanies the project as an integrated sustainability consultant and LEED auditor and is responsible for coordinating and providing evidence for the sustainability goals. The services include project and client advisory with a focus on LEED, Minergie, and circular-economy requirements, material ecology, and sustainable construction methods. An essential success factor is the applied BIM method. This includes the harmonisation, categorisation, and indexing of building components for greenhouse-gas accounting (GHG) as well as the execution of building, energy, and daylight simulations to optimise energy efficiency and daylight availability. The results of the analyses are prepared as a sound basis for decision-making in order to successfully implement the ambitious sustainability goals and to position the project as a flagship for sustainable and circular construction.
